Jennifer Coffman, Ph.D.

Jennifer Coffman (B.A. Honors, Cultural Anthropology and Political Science, Duke University; M.A. and Ph.D., Anthropology, The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill) is Associate Executive Director of International Programs at James Madison University, faculty member in Integrated Science and Technology, Founder and Director of JMU’s Kenya Summer Program, and Chair of the U.S. Board of Directors for Carolina for Kibera, Inc.  As the Associate Executive Director of the Office of International Programs, Dr. Coffman primarily focuses on internationalization and environmental efforts at JMU and our locales abroad.  As a cultural anthropologist and political ecologist, Dr. Coffman works in Kenya, East Africa, and the Shenandoah Valley, Virginia, where her primary research examines the politics of land access and ownership, sustainable food production, resource distribution, and education.
